"I got seven pictures of Buddha
The prophets on my tongue
Eleven angels of mercy
Sighing over that black hole in the sun
My heart's dark but it's rising
I'm pulling all the faith I can see
From that black hole on the horizon
I hear your voice calling me

Let it rain
Let it rain
Let it rain
Let it rain
Let it rain
Let it rain
Let it rain"

Dear Dorothea Lasky,

I would have been happy to help you with your homework because I am excited about your poetry but I figured you were just joking. After I left I thought maybe you were not joking in which case I am sorry and I wrote you a poem to compensate. It is only a mathematicians poem and it is short so if you are not satisfied let me know. I will not be offended and I will write you a mathematical equation instead.

Best,
Justin

p.s. I am posting this to your blog because I do not know your email address so please delete it after you have read it. Thank you.

Morning after the evening of first hearing the poetry of Dorothea Lasky.

The leafs are thick today with a palpable
Non-sense and the squirrel knows. The squirrel gathers
The feather-flicks across its fur, the prayers of the faithful,
The gaze of the seeing-without-knowing. Life:
It is a rocking back and forth between doing
What you believe is possible and building
Your beliefs about possibility. I remember the squirrel
Seeing me rocking back and forth, sitting
On a woman's bed, sobbing. These clenched fists
Are a question about desire. The squirrel gnaws on another
Acorn. I exhale gravity. Mathematics pulls at my phantom limb.
I exhale the need to inhale and am among the stars.
